Help protect our winters!

POW's graphics that were used during the World Championships in Åre 2019 to illustrate what the future winters in the immediate area may look like depending on how much warmer our planet becomes. An increase in Jämtland County by +4°C compared to the pre-industrial average temperature would mean just over a three-month season for Åre. If we manage to limit the increase to +2°C, we can enjoy a five-month ski season in Åre. Based on data from SMHI and the IPCC's climate scenario.

I grew up 200 meters from a ski slope where I could start the lift myself as soon as we had enough snow. Those days we had snow every winter, even here in Österlen. I could never even imagine that snow would be in short supply in the future. Although my mother was politically engaged […]

Build your own ski poles – DIY

Det räcker med enkla handverktyg som kniv, fil, skruvmejsel och limpistol för att färdigställa skidstavarna.

Why should I make your ski poles when you can build them yourself? It’s both fun and usually easy to create things yourself, at least that’s what I think. I’m not into this to peddle poles trying to get rich. I do this to cause less damage to the climate and the environment. Bamboo ski […]

Getting a grip of the strap

Handremmar och spännare från olika stadier av skidstavarnas evolution.

Six years ago, I went on an igloo trip to test how traditional equipment compares to modern materials; wool against synthetic fiber, Ventile cotton against Gore-Tex, tar-waxed wooden skis against fresh powder planks, etc. Most of the old natural materials performed well, in some cases even better than the modern materials. But one thing was […]

Ett par alpina topptursstavar med handtag och mellangrepp av kork och gummiliknande elastomer.

Sure! My bamboo ski poles are not fully finished yet. The straps are still under development. But I need input and experience from more than my family to be able to make the best possible ski poles. My plan was to make prototypes this season and to have a ready-made concept and site for them […]

Third time’s a charm

Rimfors stavspetsar i aluminium.

After a good night’s sleep and traveling the most comfortable way possible, we arrive by train to Kittelfjäll starving for some skiing; and testing my new ski pole ferrules. Will the baskets stay in place? Will the ferrule stay in place? Of course, the train station is in nearby Vilhelmina, but after traveling from Hässleholm […]

The second test – survived a friend

Fabian Rimfors i Val d'Isère och testar vad stavarna går för.

Every winter I always go for a week of pure powder without the family. For the last six years it has been with some friends by bus to Val d’Isère, with all the peaks and high altitude. The ski area is vast with almost endless possibilities where you can effortlessly reach many good runs directly […]

Nya Rimforsstavens logo - tillsammans med barnen pimpade stavar.

While I’m providing myself with ski pole accessories in order to surprise my family with their very own unique bamboo ski poles for Christmas, it strikes me that I could maybe make poles for a few friends as well, and perhaps some other people too. Suddenly that feels like the most natural thing to do. […]
